how not to take a bike ride...

....do not assume your pram tyre pump will be sufficient to pump your rear bicycle wheel, which has become somewhat deflated after a long winter stored in the shed.
...do not ask the first cyclist who comes along to help with the air-pumping, especially when they turn out to be incredibly good-looking and you are wearing your daggy fisherman pants and vest which is barely concealing your huge pregnant belly.
...do not try and tie your child's backpack to her harness in the kiddie seat as this will ensure your child slowly asphyxiates whilst you cycle along completely ignorantly.
...do not underestimate how heavy your child has become, and try to get off the bike halfway up a hill, resulting in a near fatal backward skid.
...do not think your brakes will be perfectly fine after long winter storage, do think ahead and perhaps give them some WD40 love.
...and the most important of all the do nots....DO NOT drop the bike with your child still attached in kiddie seat. This will result in near fatal hand-chopping-off-episode-almost and some tears.
